I know, right!? Finns, especially the older ones, have a stereotypical reputation of being crazy hardy that I have to confirm after having known a few. My uncle's neighbour who survived the winter wars once fell down the stairs and lay there all night, before struggling to get to his feet in the morning, once he had rested.

It seems like they really deserve that reputation. Your uncle's neighbour sounds hardcore. I can't believe the sturdiness of people like that.

Meanwhile, in post-Brexit Britain, people are fighting over toilet roll in the supermarket. *sigh*

It gets better. Germany helped fight Russia. German soldiers were explicitly instructed not to touch Finnish women. German soldiers soon got a reputation for preferring men, to the point where young Finnish men were warned not to go near the German HQ in Helsinki. This is (as I was told) how a young Tom of Finland got into their pants.

But anyway, Finns, who had at that point been colonised by Sweden for a long time and was fighting tooth and nail to get Soviet Russia out of their forest using inferior numbers and lit vodka bottles, thought of Nazi Germany as 'pansies'.

(The image of people fighting over toilet paper... Yeah, that sounds surprisingly like something that could happen at ASDA, or whatever chain the big out-of-town grocery stores sport nowadays.)

HAHAHAA. This is the first thing I have laughed at all day. Ah, this makes me feel even more fond of Finland than I was before!

(yeah, all of the supermarkets are a mess right now. I managed to time it right and found at least four baguettes in Sainsbury's today which I am going to ration out, one a day whilst I am off work)
