Snowflake Challenge 04 - Fannish Goals for 2020

 Here come the New Year's resolutions.

Things I would like to do in the coming year:

-Write more longfic.
To that end, I'd like to try participating in exchanges with a higher minimum wordcount, and hopefully be able to finish a Small Fandom Bang fic of at least 10,000 words. (Some of it will probably involve 'learning to plot' things before I write them down on paper.)

-Take on more Pinch Hits.
Preferably for rare and obscure canons.

-Finish Persona 5.
Have I mentioned how much I love P5 right now!? It's so good! And the 'normal' difficulty is just in the sweet spot between 'easy enough because I've played enough Persona games to know where this is going' and 'challenging enough'.

You must finish Persona 5, because I need you to prepare for Tokyo Mirage Sessions on Switch so I have someone to talk to about it!

Oh, gosh! This is a thing that exists! I clearly must, because while I do like the FE games I've had the oppertunity to play, Persona is. My. Jam. And handheld Persona even more so. Musical numbers!? Team-building with character focus? This looks really great :)

I love Persona too, but Atlus always seem to ruin things for me. I think, because I first played Persona 3 on PSP (although my initial contact with the SMT franchise was the English dub of the old anime OVAs), I find it frustrating that in 4 and 5, I can't play a girl character. Everyone tells me that the story wouldn't work with girl!protag but I refute this. I'm also super annoyed with the depiction of queer character in P4 (sort of) and Catherine (definitely), that annoyed me a lot. It's such a shame because the Persona series is everything I want from a game: theology and dating and turn based battles. Ah, if only my own adolescence had been that simple.

I can see why, from a technical perspective - The Psp port did away with the animation(thereby lacking a significant amount of expensive assets that would have had to be re-done), and had a darker, sci-fi-ish 'team to save the world' feel, whereas P4+P5 was more about 'slice-of-life'/'coming-of-age' that is unfortunately more grounded in Japanese youth culture, and therefore seems to include 'segregated by gender' more heavily than P3 already was(Meaning it would be way more expensive to re-write). I would love to play as a girl again, though - Especially in P5. (Although I think I might like the Rise romance link more with a FeMC.) I hope that Atlus will give us a female main character next time around. Or at the very, very least give us another gay option for the protagonist to date. (While I love, seriously love the subtext in Kanji's route, there was no way of spending Christmas with him .___. )

Have you played P2? The gameplay is dated, but there's a gay option. (Who wasn't meant to be, but the dev team were like 'Uhh, it'd make more sense for him to be the canon love interest than any of the girls' so they went there.) It also features more mythological themes, much heavier than P4+P5.

I adore Kanji so much, you know. I was really frustrated with the way his relationship with Naoto was handled, and I know that it was never intended to be what I wanted it to be, but I just felt so frustrated with how tone deaf Atlus can be sometimes.

You know, I've never played P2 or 1. One of my friends has constantly been going on at me for this for donkey's years now. I kept meaning to get them on the PSP but never got round to it. Ah, what I would give to see those games re-released on the Switch!

I feel like it's taking me over two years to beat this thing D:

Haaah.. I know the feeling. That's uh, not really as long as it took me to beat P4, buuuut.. Being on a stationary console makes it a lot harder to pick it up and play on a whim, you have to schedule those sessions, which is so much more trouble than it's worth sometimes.

Good luck, though! Thank heavens that most of the dungeons are beatable in 1-2 nights.
