My interests revolve mainly around Japan, world history, older shoujo manga, and pre 1950’s literature. Classics and Boys’ Own books are all my forte, as are a few underground comics. I adore hierarchies and boarding school/military settings, and uniforms are some of my favourite things in the world. I also really love history!
Most of what I write is shorter works of fiction, 300-1000 words long, though I’ve been known to write longer works. You’ll also find the occasional cultural/historical tidbit hanging around this blog, alongside links to interesting recipes and articles.
Current fandoms are Donna Barr comics (Desert Peach + Stinz). I'm not as much of a gamer as I used to be, but I still enjoy some select RPGs like the Persona series or Pokemon.
My Ao3 account is located here. Not all of my works are on Ao3.

There's a lot of them. Mainly, I love the tropes and cliches and art style that comes up(History! Melodrama! Floffy dresses! Bell-Bottom pants! Fucked-up relationships! Uncontrolled Iddy, because it's for kids so who cares!), so it's hard to select any favourites. 'Please Save My Earth' is probably the closest to 'normal' - It's a sci-fi series about reincarnation. Kaze To Ki No Uta is the original shounen-ai/yaoi manga, and it is refreshingly free from many, many yaoi cliches - The main inspiration is gothic and 19th century novels, boarding school films of the 1960's, and Jean Genet. It's filled with complicated family stories and twisted desires.
On the lighter side of that coin, there's 'Tooma no Shinzou' which takes inspiration from similar sources and themes, but operates on a smaller scale time-wise and is more heavily inspired by the Boarding School novel tradition. It's a very down-to-earth story about learning to love and love oneself. (KazeKi is more of a Bildungsroman that happens to feature similar things). Also, 'the Poe Clan' about a pair of immortal vampire boys living through the 19th century.
Tezuka even got in on the fun with a short story about Chopin and a Swedish girl called 'Rune'(!!!!), 'Niji no prelude'. Features crossdressing girl, pretty melodramatic prose, and Poland, while also being grounded in historic events (Rare for a Tezuka manga not set in Japan) It's short, but I love it so much.
Patalliro! is a meta-ish parody manga that plays with a lot of cliches. Plot is 'Eric Cartman runs a country', with the help of a gay MI6 agent with pretty boyfriend to parody all the BL tropes. Also has a very early example of Mpreg(Which is Not My Kink, but it amuses me that the author went there before the internet did).
'Pandora's Choice' is not technically retro, but it covers so many of the vintage shoujo tropes/cliches while also being very accurate in it's setting, and has a very 'Jane Eyre' feel to it. It chronicles a fucked-up gothic family in a gothic mansion, the main character being the half-Chinese daughter of an unhappy drunk. (The author is American/Korean, but published it on a Korean platform)

Mmm, these sound good...
Bride of the Water God is, eh, it's the kind of romance people complain about when they complain about romances. Asshole male lead, nicer rival who doesn't get the girl, love triangles upon love triangles, plots that would be solved immediately if people just talked to each other, etc. It works for me because I'm a raccoon and love triangles are my trash. :3

(I can't say a damn thing given how deeply I enjoyed Sunao no Shiro, lol. Melodrama up the wazoo and pining galore, and a plot that turns kinda dumb if you think about it more than six hours.)

I also share your interest in boarding schools/military settings, despite never having any experiences in them. Uniforms are also a fascination of mine.

It Happened Here sounds interesting, I'll keep an eye out for it.
